More importantly, these companies now have the power to suppress the publishing and distribution of books that don't support their agenda or that of their stockholders.
I find this situation frightening! The political ramifications cannot be measured. We will never know what we have missed! It is the most important time ever in history to support independent publishers, university presses and independent booksellers.
